Abstract

Measurements of the Hα line shape and of the spatial distribution of Hα emissivity in the PDX tokamak are interpreted in terms of molecular dissociation reactions at the plasma edge. The in-flux of molecules is shown to be roughly proportional to the edge emission intensity over a wide range of temperatures. The H2 particle lifetime is estimated for various types of discharges in PDX.
