Abstract

In order to estimate accurately a ship's radiation noise in the sea, we earlier reported on the attenuation constants of a small steel plate. In this paper, the radiation influence from the edge of the plate is described. Experiments were carried out using the reverberation method. The edge effect on attenuation constants was measured by decay times as a function of the ratio R (edge length/surface area of plate). Attenuation constants increased with frequency over the coincidence frequency and with the ratio R. The experimental results show that a small steel plate requires a certain correction in the attenuation constant measurement.
