Abstract

The effects of the side-dam materials for the edge containment of a twin-roll caster and the position of the side-dam on the edge quality of the as-cast strips are investigated in this paper. On the basis of the results of the experimental investigation, better side-dam materials have been selected for the direct casting of Zn 10Al alloy strips and steel strips, which are available economically. The results show that the edge quality of the as-cast strips is very satisfactory when the selected side-dam materials are used during twin-roll casting.
