Abstract
Eddy currents induced on the Toroidal Field (TF) coil case during a plasma disruption will cause Joule losses. The analysis of eddy current loss is very important for the safety of the TF coils and cryogenic system. Eddy currents on the TF coil case are related to the decay mode of the plasma and the shielding effect of the vacuum vessel. The magnetic fields on the TF coil case are shown to have both a parallel and normal component. Eddy current losses can be calculated by a quasi-analytical method. Results show that the eddy current loss of the TF coil case during a plasma disruption is very large in spite of the shielding of the vacuum vessel.
