Abstract
Herein we present two cases involving young women who developed severe dermatitis on the eyelids and peri-orbital regions due to the application of hair dye to their eyebrows. Patch tests revealed a positive reaction to para-phenylenediamine in the first patient. The hair dye in question contained the para-phenylenediamine. Para-phenylenediamine is known to be a potent skin sensitizer and to cause allergic contact dermatitis. It is an ingredient of hair dyes and certain cosmetics. Several types of allergic dermatitis to para-phenylenediamine have been described. Eyelid contact dermatitis due to application of hair dye to the eyebrows has been reported only rarely.
