Abstract
Lee Elizabeth Wachtel, M.D., professor of psychiatry at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, who specializes in using electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) for adolescents, spoke at this year's annual meeting of the American Psychiatric Association (APA). She was the second of the two speakers at the APA session. Wachtel calls it convulsive therapy — “It's really the convulsion that brings about the benefit, as compared to the fashion in which it's elicited,” said Wachtel at the May 20 APA meeting, which CABL covered.
