Abstract
John Roemer’s recent book, Theories of Distributive Justice, is a major contribution to the debate over egalitarian theories of justice. In this review essay I confine myself to two of the central issues in this debate: his criticism of the current varieties of egalitarianism and his discussion of the critical role of responsibility in contemporary egalitarian theory.
