Abstract
Many were surprised when the two largest private insurance companies in the United States announced imaging site of care policies, designed to steer outpatients from (more expensive) hospital-based imaging to (cheaper) freestanding centers. Given general concerns about affordability of care and the potentially dramatic differences in cost between sites of imaging, it is understandable why private insurance companies might wish to direct patients to lower cost centers, as detailed below. But the question remains, what about the quality of patient care, especially for pediatric patients?
