Abstract
The transitional economies of Central Europe have given way to a rapid emergence of the private sector. This article examines the attempts to privatize the Czech Republic’s health care system from both a social and economic perspective. Provided is a general discussion of the mass privatization of state-owned enterprises in the Czech Republic, an analysis of the previous health system, and an explanation of the transformation process to a privatized health care system. Finally, a discussion of outcomes and an assessment of these outcomes follow.
