Abstract

Globalization and regionalization are considered complementary processes. Globalization is dealing with economic, technological, military, even political, aspects. Regionalism is focused on cultural (religious) domain too. The regionalization process is characterized, in its structure, by economic facts, but the development of economic regions must not lead to a fragmentation of the entire global economic system in closed and rigid economic regions. The main economic region of the world, the European Union contribute to and play an important role for the development of the regions itself, and also to the interrelations between regions and states within larger economic structure (such as European Union). This is scope of this work: to underline the importance of economic regions, which ought to face the challenges of globalization.
