Abstract

A 2-yr study revealed that the relationship between the density of tarnished plant bug (TPB), Lygus lineolaris (Palisot de Beauvois), per blossom cluster and the Yield reduction of strawberries can be described by a nonlinear regression equation. Strawberry cv. Redcoat was found to have a carrying capacity of 0.90 TPB nymphs per blossom cluster. The economic injury level (EIL) was estimated to be at 0.95–0.99 TPB nymphs per blossom cluster when strawberry weight was considered. However, at the above EIL, 13% of the berries showed signs of TPB injury at harvest. Based on the percentage of uninjured berries at harvest, an action threshold of 0.26 nymphs per blossom cluster was determined.
