Abstract
This textbook is designed for economic geologists who deal with the evaluation of deposits at an early stage of development. The original German edition was published in 1986 and the first English edition in 1989. The first chapter (19 pages) is entirely dedicated to the conversion of measurements (lengths, weights, prices, etc.) from one unit to another. The next three chapters (60 pages) discuss methods to estimate average grades and tonnages from drill hole data, analyze multi-element deposits, and quantify factors that must be taken into account in the economic evaluation of deposits. Chapter 2 discusses the evaluation of grade and tonnages. There is an extensive discussion of geometric problems encountered when drilling tabular or vein deposits, but little is said about large disseminated deposits. Uranium deposits are given particular attention in this chapter as well as in chapter 4. An entire chapter (chapter 3) is dedicated to the study of polymetallic deposits. Chapter 4 discusses the conversion of geologic data into mining data, including estimation of dilution, mining recovery and losses, and how to estimate metal recoveries and …
