Abstract

The authors present an overview of a method for calculating the economic generation dispatch using the power loss function and penalty factor for each plant. A generalized computer algorithm that uses an iterative solution of linearized cost functions to find the economic distribution of the power system generation is developed. The solution of the economic dispatch problem is based on Lagrangian multipliers and the transmission losses coupled with the generator cost functions. The transmission losses are obtained from the B loss coefficients, which approximate the system losses as a quadratic function of the real power generation. These B coefficients can be obtained by using the bus admittance matrix or the bus impedance matrix. An iterative method solves the nonlinear cost function by using the linearized cost functions with the system power loss functions. The final solution for economic dispatch problem is then obtained. A solution is presented for the example of the IEEE 18-bus system. >
