Abstract

Interrelated complexities which make cost-benefit analysis difficult are discussed, beginning with the neoclassical economic paradigm for the allocation of goods and services in a competitive economy. Environmental pollution modeling is described with a review of the principal methods for assessing benefits of air, land, and water pollution abatement. Suggestions for improved assessment methodology conclude the review. 143 references. (PCS)
