Abstract

E-commerce in agriculture is something new and evolving. As a result, it has not settled into a set of fixed practices. Three major questions are the basis for discussion: (1) Is there any order in the variety of e-commerce practices? (2) What drives the evolution of e-commerce?(3) What are the implications for agricultural research and policy of variety and rapid change in e-commerce? Entrepreneurship is presented (with three concepts of entrepreneurship) as a means to create order when dealing with the variety and change in agricultural e-commerce. The discussion provides reasons for the rapid changes in agricultural e-commerce markets and concludes with suggestions for research and policy advice in the evolution of agricultural e-commerce.(JSD)
