Abstract

Legislative measures intended to protect the environment have led to changes for ink manufacturers, both in the way that ink is produced, and, more significantly, in the products that are available or being developed for printers. Undoubtedly, legislation will increase in this area and impose additional costs on businesses. Many ink companies have seen this challenge as an opportunity. The establishment of environmental management systems, such as the British Coatings Federation “Coatings Care’ programme, will assist in identifying waste and continually improving performance. Ink makers will continue to talk to their customers in order to identify future product requirements which deal with the environmental problems that are rising quickly to the top of the agenda.
