Abstract

Spercheus stangli Schwarz and Barber, 1917 (Coleoptera: Spercheidae) is distributed in South Asia and Southeast Asia. Its Japanese population is known only in one pond on the Iriomote Island. To better understand the ecology of this family and develop conservation strategies for S. stangli, we conducted field surveys and rearing experiments. Our results suggest that S. stangli is bivoltine or multivoltine. We concluded that ponds with substrates, such as wood fragments floating on the water surface, are important habitats for the conservation of these beetles.
