Abstract

The article is devoted to the search for the optimal material for making a dwelling while keeping honey bees in Eastern Siberia. The benefits of keeping bee colonies in hives made of traditional material are described. Studies have shown that in the Krasnoyarsk Territory, in contrast to the European part of the country, cedar hives turned out to be more optimal for keeping bees. During the wintering of bees in such hives, there was 100% safety. As a result of the conducted research, it was noted that keeping bees in cedar hives increased the strength of bee colonies, average honey and beeswax productivity, and the amount of brood. The daily increase in numbers made it possible to maintain the most favorable environment in the brood zone. Indicators monitoring shows that as a result of such keeping, colonies had a large number of worker bees, a healthy atmosphere inside the dwelling, and this made it possible to optimally use the colony’s reserves for development, flight activity, as well as for further growth of individuals and production.
