Abstract

AbstractFollowing the exponential growth of the human population, a remarkable increase in the amount of fish waste has been produced worldwide. Fish processing industry generates a considerable number of by-products which represents a considerable environmental problem. Accordingly, reuse and valorisation of these by-products is a key process for marine resources preservation. This literature review focuses on eco-friendly extraction technologies of collagen and fish oils obtained by fish by-products. Furthermore, we will also carry out a literature review of ecotoxicological studies to evaluate the ecological impact of the extraction of the high-commercial products.KeywordsFish wasteMarine collagenFish oilMarine sustainable sourcesCircular economyGreen extraction technology
