Abstract

Multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were synthesized from tires by chemical vapor deposition technique. XRD, FESEM, EDX, Raman spectroscopy, and TGA were used to evaluate the synthesized MWCNTs. XRD analysis showed that their diffraction spectrum had crystalline materials with well periodic arrangement of atom compatible with graphite structure, while SEM microscopy showed that the diameter of the tubes have an average about 40 nm. Also, EDX showed that the prepared samples have C and O with percentage amount equal 95.54 % and 4.06 %, respectively, while Raman spectroscopy showed that IG/ID ratio equals 1.02, which means that the presence of the defects in the skeleton of CNTs due the distortion process happened on the graphene layers, whereas TGA showed that the effect of thermal combustion of purified CNT was started at 500 °C with a mass loss of about 95 %.
