Abstract

To obtain a complete picture of the feeding ecology of insectivorous bats requires, among other things, a detailed knowledge of the actions of individuals, where they hunt, what they catch relative to what is available there, and how these patterns vary over time. The purpose of this paper is to consider the echolocation of bats and the hearing-based defenses of insects related to echolocation in the context of the question, are insectivorous bats specialists?
