Abstract

This is the fourth edition of one of the most comprehensive books about echocardiography. With the exception of the chapter concerning congenital heart disease by W. F. Armstrong, MD, associate professor of medicine and colleague of Dr Feigenbaum at Indiana University School of Medicine, Indianapolis, this remains a single-authored work. The organization and chapter headings are identical to the previous edition, but the text has been expanded from 563 to 639 pages. Even the traditional cover of the previous three editions showing M-mode and then two-dimensional images of left and right atrial myxomas has been changed to a two-dimensional image of ischemic heart disease and Doppler and M mode of mitral insufficiency and elevated left ventricular enddiastolic pressure. The book is clinically and physiologically oriented and is written in a most readable style, which eliminates all but the most essential technical terms and formulas.
