Abstract

1. 1. Ecdysone 20-monooxygenase was examined in female and male adults of Gryllus bimaculatus by radioassay quantification. 2. 2. In both sexes, ecdysone 20-monooxygenase activity is located primarily in the microsomal fraction of the midgut. No activity was found in fat body, ovaries, Malpighian tubules, and carcass tissue. 3. 3. Throughout adult life cycle, ecdysone 20-monooxygenase activity fluctuates characteristically, with peak activity at day 4 after ecdysis. 4. 4. The amounts of cytochrome P450 in midgut microsomes also show a peak on day 4 of adult life stage. 5. 5. From the proventricle of the alimentary tract a trypsin inhibitor was extracted which protects midgut ecdysone 20-monooxygenase from inactivation by proteases, in vitro.
