Abstract

An all-fiber optical attenuator is fabricated by splicing an eccentric core single-mode fiber (ECSMF) between two single-mode fibers (SMFs).The attenuation is mainly caused by the core offset between the ECSMF and the SMFs. Attenuators with different attenuations were fabricated. The device is simple, reliable, economical, and temperature independent. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
