Abstract

EMERGENCY is an Italian non-governmental organization founded in 1994 in order to provide free-of-charge health care to civilians victims of wars and poverty. Since its foundation EMERGENCY provided assistance to more than 6 million people in 16 countries. I chose to go to Sierra Leone after I became involved with EMERGENCY (together with the Spallanzani Infectious Disease Institute in Rome and the Reggio Emilia Hospital) in the planning of a clinical trial for the treatment of Ebola with amiodarone.
