Abstract

In the early stage of style design processes, designers start by expressing their ideas of a product on sketches. This study aimed to develop a system for constructing three-dimensional models from two-dimensional sketches to support the style designs of automobiles. The developed system allows the construction of models without obstructing the aesthetic expression of the designer. This paper describes an automatic identification method of a sketch as well as a simple three-dimensional model construction system that builds 3-D models from the 2-D information of sketches mainly for automobile body.KeywordsSketchThree-dimensional ModelCADAesthetic DesignStyle DesignSensitivity ExpressionAutomobile
