BENO GUTENBERG and C. F. Richter have recently studied in detail several hundred earthquakes in southern California with the view of finding out the physical properties of the earth's crust in the region. The first paper under discussion, "Recent Results of Earthquake Study in Southern California", by both authors (Trans. Amer. Geophys.
