Abstract

Because of Earth's non-sphericity, compositional inhomogeneities andcrustal topography, an equivalence principle violation seen in a STEPmission will include multipole fine structure produced by sourceseffectively independent of the Earth's monopole and quantitativelydifferent from the gravitational multipole structure. If non-universality ofgravitational free-fall occurs above STEP's detection threshold of10-18, there is good chance (about 40%) that the monopolephenomenon will be robust - between 10-13 and10-15 - permitting measurement of the fine structure which canyield ambiguity-breaking information about the absolute coupling strengthof the newly discovered interaction.
