Abstract

Changes during radiation affecting anatomical size and shape of contoured GTVs and organs at risk may lead to IMRT uncertainties. The aim of this study was a descriptive assessment of early volumetric changes in parotid glands (PG, n = 129) and submandibular glands (SG, n = 124) due to fractionated radiotherapy (RT) in head and neck cancer patients. One objective was to confirm results of early PG shrinkage during RT that reported in a previous study (ASTRO abstract 1071, 2003) apparent during RT.
