Abstract

We study reionization histories where ionizing UV photons are emitted fromdecaying particles, in addition to the usual contributions from stars andquasars, taking account of the fact that the universe is not fully ionized untilz ∼ 6, as observed by the Sloan Digital Sky Survey. Likelihood analysis of the three-year datafrom the WMAP (Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe) severely constrains thedecaying particle scenario. In particular, a decaying particle with relatively short lifetime isnot favoured by the polarization data.
