Abstract

Two experiments were conducted using 16 crossbred wether lambs to determine when changes could be detected in the urinary excretion of total nitrogen and urea-N after initiating diethylstilbestrol feeding. Significant decreases were observed after 3 to 5 days of diethylstilbestrol feeding. Kidney clearance of urea during the 10-day period following diethylstilbestrol feeding does not appear to be changed. Since plasma urea-N declines markedly upon diethylstilbestrol administration, these findings imply a true protein anabolic effect of diethylstilbestrol in ruminants within 3 to 5 days after its administration.
