Abstract

(BJOG. 2019;126:33–42) Certain pregnancy complications, including preterm birth, preeclampsia and gestational hypertension, are female-specific risk factors for cardiovascular disease (CVD), the leading cause of death for both men and women. Pregnancy loss has been suggested as a possible risk factor for CVD. Although stillbirth and spontaneous abortion have been associated with an increased risk of stroke and ischemic heart disease, there is a lack of information regarding increased risk of CVD in women with a history of spontaneous pregnancy loss. This study aimed to assess the associations of pregnancy loss and risk of hypertension, type 2 diabetes (T2D), and hypercholesterolemia.
