Abstract

It is sometimes easy to forget that the young children who attend our settings are still adjusting to life outside of the womb. Undoubtedly this must be extremely overwhelming for them, especially when babies may be thrust into a 1:3 staff ratio at just a few months old. Gemma Kirby, lecturer in Education at University College Birmingham and former nursery manager, explores the importance of practitioners striving to foster positive relationships and forming secure attachments with babies and toddlers.
