Abstract

A rational approach to the problem of extensive skin destruction secondary to burns appears to be early excision of devitalized tissue and immediate closure of the wound. This concept, coupled with strict protection of the patient against cross-infection, and nutritional support, may be employed successfully as routine burn care for small as well as moderate burns that require hospitalization. A key addition to treatment of massive deep burns is the use of immunosuppression.
