Early Endosomes Act as Local Exocytosis Hubs to Repair Endothelial Membrane Damage (Adv. Sci. 13/2023)

Abstract

Plasma Membrane Resealing Endothelial cells (yellow) comprise the inner lining of blood vessels. Following laser-induced injury of their plasma membrane, the membrane wound must be repaired to prevent cell death. This is achieved by early endosomes (red circles), compartments involved in conventional endocytic transport, which are repurposed for wound repair. They undergo Ca2+-dependent exocytosis to provide membrane for resealing of the wound. More details can be found in article number 2300244 by Volker Gerke and co-workers.
