Abstract
Objective To analyze the methods of early diagnosis and treatment for infectious endophthalmitis. Methods The retrospective study included 46 patients (46 eyes),17 patients with mild infectious endophthalmitis received intravitreal injection.Among them,2 patients whose disease continued to develop received vitrectomy,29 patients with severe infectious endophthalmitis received vitrectomy combined with intravitreal injection.Vitreous body was taken in all patients before surgery for etiological examination. The visual acuity, intraocular pressure and eye retention situation before and after treatment were comparatively analyzed. Results Infectious endophthalmitis was controlled in all patients after treatment. The rate of eye retention was 100%.16/46 (34.8%) vitreous samples were positive for culture. In the group of intravitreal injection, the visual acuity improved significantly after injection (Z =2.649,P <0.05) and there was no significant difference of intraocular pressure before and after injection (t =2.040,P >0.05).In the group of vitrectomy combined with intravitreal injection, the visual acuity improved significantly after surgery (Z =3.395,P <0.05) and there was no significant difference of intraocular pressure before and after surgery (t =0.107,P >0.05).Conclusions Early diagnosis and treatment of infectious endophthalmitis can save eye and recover visual acuity inordinately.
