Abstract

(N Engl J Med. 2023;389;3) It is a common complication after a woman has given birth, to have varying degrees of postpartum hemorrhage (PPH). Bleeding after birth is the leading cause of maternal death in many developing regions, accounting for more than 20% of postpartum deaths worldwide. Postpartum hemorrhage is defined as when more than 500 mL of blood loss occurs. Though highly preventable, a patient can escalate rapidly from moderate to severe in a matter of minutes if precautions and monitoring are not in place.
