Abstract
The Navy's HARDMAN Program provides an experience base upon which the introduction of earlier human factors planning in weapon system design may be accomplished. This paper reexamines guideposts which were identified and discussed two years ago at an earlier meeting of the Human Factors Society and addresses the role that the Department of Defense (DoD) may play in promoting more effective consideration of manpower, personnel, training and human factors issues in the design of weapon systems.
