Abstract

Background: Colonoscopy is recommended following acute diverticulitis to rule out malignancy. It is a common practice to postpone the colonoscopy and to avoid the potential risk of perforation. Many of the patients are elderly and may not show for the colonoscopy. In a previous uncontrolled trial, we demonstrated that early colonoscopy is feasible in patients with acute diverticulitis. Aim: To compare in a randomized controlled trial early vs. late colonoscopy in hospitalized patients with acute diverticulitis.
