Abstract

At rest, without a defined task, activity in the Default Mode Network (DMN) is associated with self-referential thought. Aberrant Blood-Oxygen-Level-Dependent (BOLD-fMRI) activity is routinely observed in schizophrenia (SZ), particularly in the DMN. Neural activity at rest, as measured from electroencephalography (EEG), also reveals atypical rhythmic activity in SZ patients. Despite growing evidence for nonstationarity between EEG and fMRI, the relationship between resting EEG and fMRI in SZ remains unknown.
