In the environment of smart grid, the distributed generation obtained a rapid development, which has impact to the power grid, and it makes power quality be more and more important. As an crucial aspect to guarantee the power quality, the reactive power compensation is attracted more and more attention. Along with the wide application of power electronic technology, they become the main harmonic sources, and most of the devices also consumpt reactive power. This paper on the basis of summary about reactive power compensation methods, it portrays a matrix converter which can inject the generated power into grid with harmonic and reactive power compensation simultaneously in wind power integration. The author put forward a way using it for reactive compensation, that its a significant advantage is harmonic suppression and. reactive power compensation is independent on the transmission of the active. It also analyzes that it is high-efficiency when the voltage transmission rate is smaller. When compensating the reactive power and controlling the harmonic can ensure the capacity of the compensation simultaneously, it will be the trendency of reactive power compensation technology in the future.
