Abstract

The of the $E2$ interference term in the Coulomb excitation of the ${2}_{1}^{+}$ state in the even Pt nuclei is known to be in contradiction with the existing model calculations. This sign anomaly is examined in the framework of the extended asymmetric rotor model where it is shown that the $2\ensuremath{-}qp$ exictations and their coupling to the collective states are essential for a proper description of the sign.NUCLEAR STRUCTURE Coulomb excitation; asymmetric rotor model; nuclear structure of Pt isotopes.
