Abstract
This paper discusses the conditions under which interference of spontaneousE2 radiation and the electric-field-inducedE1 radiation can be observed. If the energy level widths of the states which are mixed in the electric field are taking into consideration theE2-E1 interference has two pictures depending whether the phase factor of the electric field admixed wave functions is real or imaginary. The properties of these two interference effects are described. Their observable consequences in high-Z Lamb shift experiments are pointed out.
