Abstract

Transitions in 74Se have been studied using the radioactivities produced by bombarding 46Ti with 155 MeV 35Cl ions. The E0 transitions from the 853.8 keV excited 0 + state to the ground state in 74Se have been observed with a mechanical lifetime filter. The ratio of the E0 to E2 transition probabilities of the 0 + state, X( E0 E2 ) , is deduced to be 0.13±0.02. Combining the measured ratio with the published lifetime of the 0 + state, the monopole strength, | ϱ(E0)| = 0.16 ± 0.02, is obtained and compared with predictions by some current models.
