Abstract

Metal extraction from vanadyl-mesotetraphenylporphyrin (VO-TPP), dissolved in toluene, by means of trifluoroacetic acid and isoperfluorooctanoic acid, was studied as a model for acid demetallization in crude oils. E.p.r., u.v.-vis. and h.p.l.c. techniques have been used. Evidence of the formation of an adduct between VO-TPP and perfluorinated acids in toluenic solutions has been confirmed, while in pure acid solution a different behaviour has been observed. Demetallization of the porphyrin occurs in isoperfluorooctanoic acid whilst in trifluoroacetic acid oxidation of vanadium occurs after the demetallization.
