Abstract

With the country deep into the worst economic and financial crisis of its recent history, general political and societal discourse during the year has focused on ‘development’ and ‘investment’ rather than on ‘the environment.’ Nevertheless, there were a number of noteworthy legislative developments, including the adoption of a law on the protection of biodiversity and steps on the promotion of renewable energy. Furthermore, access to environmental information was greatly improved during the year as a result of Law 3861/2010, which aimed to reinforce transparency through the mandatory publishing on the Internet of all laws and administrative acts (Government Gazette no. 112 A/13.7.2010). In addition, the National Printing House finally has provided electronic access to all issues of the Government Gazette free of charge.
