Abstract

The production of e +e − pairs via proton-neutron bremsstrahlung is calculated in a covariant way based on a realistic meson exchange approximation for the pn scattering amplitude. Significant differences between the exact calculations and estimates used so far in the literature are pointed out and discussed. The calculations are applied to the reaction p+Be at 1 GeV by adopting the independent NN collision model and are shown to account well for the recently measured differential e +e − spectra.
