Abstract
The article deals with polysemy, homonymy and synonymy of the word-building affixes in English. Language is never stable: sounds, constructions, grammatical elements, word-forms and word-meanings are all exposed toalteration. Derivational affixes are no exception in this respect. They undergo semantic change. The most productive affixes in English are investigated and the examples of polysemantic, homonymic and synonymic affixes are given. Also, it is noted that the above-mentioned features of the word-building affixes in English promote to better investigation and study of the word-derivation.
