Abstract

In this study, we investigated the hemodynamic, and me- tabolic changes and tissue damages occured after the app- liment of tourniquet on thight in patients who have under- gone lower extremity knee arthroscopy under spinal ana- esthesia. Spinal anesthesia was performed to 15 patients in lateral position giving 3 ml 0.5% bupivacaine heavy by the use of 22G spinal needle from L3-4 interspace. Systo- lic and diastolic blood pressure and heart rate were dec- reased during and after tourniquet application. With tour- niquet deflation in 5. minutes arterial pH, PaCO 2 and HCO 3 - were decreased and PaO 2 and K + level were inc- reased. We conclude that with using spinal anaesthesia, significant hemodynamic and metabolic changes and tis- sue damage were not observed during unilateral tourniqu- et application in arthroscopic surgery
