Abstract

Dystonia is a hyperkinetic movement disorder characterized by repetitive, involuntary, twisting movements typically producing sustained postures. When the movement is triggered by a specific task, it is referred to as focal, task-specific dystonia (FTSD). Dystonia can be triggered by tasks such as writing and playing a sport or musical instrument. Treatment options include medications, rehabilitation, and surgical procedures.
